Meaning –

Oh, embodiment of Omkara, all powerful sat-Guru,
Lord of all those who are helpless,
Salutations to You!

Salutations to You who are our Mother and Father, treasure of mercy and grace,
You break the bindings of illusions & worldly temptations,
If not You, my compassionate sat-Guru,
Salutations to You!

My sat-Guru is an ocean of joy and happiness,
He is the support of this Universe and of the three worlds,
My master, my Guru, He is the embodiment of light,
In front of Him, even the sun and the moon appear as dull,
He is Himself in the form of the sun and the moon,
He is both the Light and the Vedas,
Salutations to You!

My Guru verily is parabramha,
His name always dwells in my mouth,
Salutations to You!

Maajhe maaher pandhari…

This is a very popular Marathi Abhang sung by the maestro himself Pandit Bhimsen Joshi.

Maajhe maaher Pandhari
Aahe bhivarecha teri

Baap aani aai
Maaze Vittal Rakhumai

Pundlik rahe bandhu
Tyachi khyati kaai sangu

Maaze bahin chandrabhaga
Karitase pap bhanga

Ika janrdhani sharan
Kari maherachi aatwan

Meaning –

My mother’s place is Pandhari, which is by the shore on Bhivari, the river.

Vithhal and rakhumai are my parents – father and mother.

Pundalik is my brother, how do i enumerate his greatness?

Chandrabhaaga is my sister, she makes sure all sins are destroyed in between.

At the feet of Janardhan, I am reminded of my mother’s place which is Pandhari.

Nee maayeyoLago ninnoLu maayeyo…

This is a popular Dasara Pada, composed originally by Kanaka Dasa a saint from Karnataka. However, this is often heard by devotees in the melodious voice of Vidyabhushana, earlier a pontiff, now leading a family life often referred to as ‘Sangeetha Vidya Nidhi’. Hailing Lord Krishna, this is what Kanaka Dasa had to say, the meaning of which follows the lyrics –

Nee maayeyolago ninnoLu maayeyo ||2||
Nee dehadoLago ninnoLu dehavo
Nee maayeyoLago ninnoLu maayeyo
Nee dehadoLago ninnoLu dehavo
Nee maayeyoLago ninnoLu maayeyo

Nee dehadoLago ninnoLu dehavo
Nee maayeyolago ninnoLu maayeyo…
Nee maayeyolago ninnoLu maayeyo… ninnoLu maayeyo… ninnoLu maayeyo…

Meaning –

Are you a creature of illusion? or illusion your creation?
Are you a part of the body? Or is the body a part of you?

Is space within the house? Or the house within space? Or are both space and the house within the seeing eye? Is the eye within the mind? Or the mind within the eye? Or are both the eye and the mind within you?

Does sweetness lie in sugar, or sugar in sweetness? Or do both sweetness and sugar lie in the tongue?
Is the tongue within the mind? Or the mind within the tongue? Or are both the tongue and the mind within you?

Does fragrance lie in the flower? Or the flower in fragrance? Or do both the flower and fragrance lie in the nostrils? I cannot say, O Lord Adikeshava of Kaginele, O! peerless one, are all things within you alone?

Om Namo Bhagawatey Vasudevaaya

Chanting the name of the Holy Lord Sri Krishna, I start my voyage to accomodate the lyrics of Devotional songs, be it Marathi or Kannada or Hindi.

I am sure Krishna will show way.
